Derek Chauvin 被告の裁判/ Derek Chauvin Trial
2020年5月25日、ミネソタ州ミネアポリスでGeorge Floyd氏を殺害したことで第２級殺人罪に問われている元警官のDerek Chauvin被告の裁判が連日行われております。同裁判は、各メディアが連日生中継しており、Youtubeでも視聴することができますので、もしご関心のある方はご覧ください。

George Floyd氏の殺害は、人種差別を象徴する事件として世界中で「Black Lives Matter」と呼ばれる抗議活動の契機となりました。実は小職も、"Black Lives Matter Tokyo"という同抗議活動の東京におけるボランティア団体で、法務面をボランティアでサポートしたことがあり、この裁判には関心を寄せております。被告のDerek Chauvinは、両手を背後に回して手錠をかけられた無抵抗の状態のGeorge Floyd氏の頸部を「9分29秒間」膝で抑えつけ（本人が「息ができない」と懇願しているにもかかわらず）、窒息死させました。
直近では、アメリカ合衆国で"Asian Hate"と呼ばれるアジア人に対する人種差別が拡大しており、"Stop Asian Hate"と呼ばれる抗議活動が広まっております。アメリカでアジア人が比較的高収入の方が多いため、妬みひがみの対象となっていること、また、トランプ元大統領がCOVID-19を「China Virus」と揶揄するなどしたことが契機であるとも言われており、2020年から件数が拡大しております。
日本は単一民族国家なので、日本にいると人種差別問題はあまり身近ではないかもしれませんが、世界中至る所で人種差別問題が起こっており、悲しい事件が繰り返されております。現実的には難しいかもしれませんが、いつの日か、人種差別のない世の中が訪れることを願っております。

The trial of Derek Chauvin, a former police officer accused of second-degree murder for the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020, has daily been held. The trial is broadcast live daily by each media and can be watched on Youtube, so if you are interested in it, please take a look.

Murder of George Floyd sparked protests known around the world as "Black Lives Matter" as a symbol of racism. In fact, I am interested in this trial because I have volunteered to support the legal side of the protest group "Black Lives Matter Tokyo". The defendant, Derek Chauvin, choked George Floyd's neck to death with his knees for "9 minutes and 29 seconds", Goerge Floyd being handcuffed with his hands behind his back.
Recently, racism against Asians called "Asian Hate" is spreading in the United States, and protests called "Stop Asian Hate" are spreading. It is said that the number of Asians in the U.S. is relatively high income and the target of jealousy, and that former President Trump ridiculed COVID-19 as "China Virus." The number of Asian Hate incidents, therefore, has been increasing since 2020.
Japan is a single-ethnic nation, so racism may not be very familiar when you are in Japan, but racism problems are happening all over the world, and sad incidents are repeated. It may be difficult in practice, but I hope that one day we will come to a world free of racism.
